Now based in Marseille, Belgian artist Spyk unveils Chromatic Vortex, a hypnotic new series where color becomes pure movement. Inspired by the spectacular skies captured by storm chasers, he explores the tension between chaos and beauty. Blending abstraction, atmospheric energy, and emotional depth, his canvases seem to literally draw the viewer in

When we first met him a year ago, he had just arrived in Marseille, the city he had chosen to call home. Of course, the landscape was more hilly and the sky far bluer than in the flat country of his childhood, yet he found many similarities with Liège, the city closest to his heart.

We found him again in this former mill in the 13th arrondissement, where he had unpacked paints, canvases, and frames to take stock of more than a year of encounters, discoveries, and inspiration in the South. In the midst of the organized chaos he promises to sort out over time, he was busy completing the final canvases of his new series, Chromatic Vortex, soon to be exhibited at Galerie Diego Escobar, which now represents him.

Or how to talk about Turner, apéritifs, AI, and paddleboarding all in the same conversation…
