Where? : Nouveau port de plaisance Boule vard Anatole France

The activity of this city, famous for its multicoloured small boats, has always been looking towards the sea. Dockyards have been settled there since 1622, and became its economic heart after the industrialisation for more than 150 years. When they shut down in the middle of the 1980’s, the city decided to focus on yachting. Looking like giant pink flamingos, the port’s cranes that built the image of the city – as well as the docks, now hosting bars and restaurants – are still a marking characteristic of La Ciotat’s gulf. Repairing workshops now welcome world’s biggest yachts thanks to their quality infrastructures, and brought new people in town (mainly Anglo-Saxons). Behind the new port – hosting a famous nautical show – the seaside also changed. (EF)
